7. Instinct and innermost drive

We have got a brief idea of the function of instinct, but we are not aware exactly of what human instinct is. This leads to human nature. To clarify it will be of a greatest significance both to human itself and to computer intelligentization or artificial life of high intelligence.

The most influential theory in the world is "sex instinct" originated by Freud. Freud believed that sex was the innermost drive of human being. This theory is still active today. The nature of life is to multiply or propagate and sex is the prerequisite of life propaganda. Song, music, dance, makeup, decoration, painting, etc. in human cultures and arts were originally conducted for sex allure and attraction. Also the provenance of humans desires for possess and ruling power was sex, not to mention the complex emotions of human being.

It is, however, very limited to use sex instinct to explain our current social events, we can not link everything to sex, for example, the scientific exploration of the unknown. How can we boil it down to the sex curiosity?

Maybe when human society developed to a certain phase, life propagation was no longer the sole purpose of sex. The worship and encouraging of sex began to turn into inhibition and limitation of sex. Ethic, religion, politics, economy, science and technology alienated the function of sex; thus it made more and more difficult for us to explain the aftermath with the theory of sex instinct.

If the drive of intelligence comes from sex instinct, we have to endow the computer with sex sense and sex concept for its intelligentization. This is absolutely enigmatical.

There are some other theories on human innermost drive such as pleasure, fear, subjection, subsistence adaptation, self-actuation, etc., and the omnifarious theories can be divided into two academic schools depending on the basis of whether human nature is good or bad.

The fear instinct sounds reasonable, for the curiosity and exploration of the unknown is most probably driven by fear instinct. Of course it is unconscious.

We are still unable to solve the problems of how to endow the computer with instinct and what instinct to endow, anyhow people will find out the way to do it someday. There is a possibility that the first step is to solve artificial neural nets and memory, the second step to introduce critical parts to solve how to endow it with instinct and life, the third step to realize high intelligence and the last step to localize all parts.

That means to engraft the computer with an existing life or human being, then reconstruct and reorganize it. This is a shortcut. Once we can create the cyberbrain, so easy can we endow it with a gender and a capacity of propagation.

Some people have already tried it. People are worrying about what our human being will look like in the future. Human gene will be reconstructed sooner or later, and perhaps people will be hybridized into various figures and most probably cyberhuman will show up.

Why must high intelligence be actuated in life form? The simple answer is that the intelligence is activeness or initiative of a subject.

Will cyberbrain die? Yes. Where is a life there is a death. People may assume that if we turn the electrical power off, it will die. Things may not be that simple, in fact what kind of energy the cyberbrain will consume is a mystery now. Since high intelligence can neither copy itself nor be copied and neither can its brain be read out nor written, it will conduct disease, become decrepit and die. No one and no any other cyberbrains can overwrite its brain and that is indeed cerebral death. Intelligence and thoughts can not exist without a carrier.
